I've worked on all of Architectural Digest's digital editions for the past year and a half. We recreate the print edition for both 7" and 10" devices—with added functionality. Here are a few interactive elements I've helped create for AD's digital editions in Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. In "All Together Now," we've incorporated a floor plan where the user can move through each of the rooms in the house by tapping on an area, and they can also navigate through the slideshow of images, which correspond to each point on the map. In "Opening Ceremony," we created a day-to-night time lapse view of a living room. Watch the videos below for a sample of the experience on the iPad.
I spent six months at Bon Appétit as a freelance digital production designer and recreated digital pages for both 10" and 7" devices based off of the print edition. Here is a Table of Contents page that I designed for the May 2012 issue. In the sample iPad video, I scroll through the TOC and navigate to another section called "The Takeaway" where I built an interactive pie chart about artisanal pizza. A small banner animation created in After Effects plays on this page as well.
The New Yorker relies heavily on HTML for its digital editions. I spent six months as a freelancer creating HTML slideshows and adding digital extras such as audio excerpts using Adobe DPS (see video below). For Bruce McCall’s “Chutes and Ladders,” cover which was published in the January 9th issue, we created interactive options that did not run on the digital newsstands. Here is my draft version which borrows the HTML5 canvas element created here to bring the beginning of the campaign season to life in this illustration.
I built many of the interactive elements in four different digital issues of Martha Stewart Weddings. Here are a few examples of slideshows, scrolling text, toggles, and multi-state objects that were built in Adobe DPS and included in the Fall 2012 issue.
My friend Sah-rah wrote and designed a book called Craft-A-Day, which she turned into a seasonal app. She needed some digital production assistance for her Winter edition. Small animations were created using Photoshop and Adobe DPS. Below is an example of the cover animation.
Here are some illustrations and a few Raphaël animations I've made for fun:
